The RIFFED Librarian
In education, you don't get laid off, your get RIFFED. RIF stands for Reduction In Force. I lost my media specialist job of 23 years in a Reduction In Force in 2010. My life's work and my identity were literally RIFFED away from me. In response I began this blog and became the RIFFED librarian. In the summer of 2012 I accepted a job as a media specialist in a middle school. I soon learned that the only way this school was able to continue to have a licensed media specialist was if that person also taught the nine week 5th & 6th grade research/keyboarding class. Consequently after teaching an average of 4-5 periods a day, there is little time left over to be a media specialist. What little time I do have I cherish because I know all too well how easily it can be taken away. So even though I am no longer technically RIFFED, I feel completely justified in continuing this blog – the RIFFED Librarian. The way things are going in Indiana, it's only a matter of time....
